Packing Peanuts III: Beauty Personified

More info on the Packing Peanuts Posts can be found here. And then here’s today’s piece of Deb-stuffing:

The magazine I pulled this picture out of nearly twenty years ago was already old at the time. Now I don’t remember which magazine it was from, what the article was about, etc. I just remember seeing this woman and wanting to be like her when I’m 86.

I’ve had to leave a lot of things behind in my life through various moves and such. But I’ve made sure to always tuck this picture in with things I have to keep. It is my visual of Someday.

She is the epitome of beauty, to me.

Who personifies beauty for you?

  1. I have an artist's rendering of Artemis with her hounds, bow and arrow at the ready that I keep on my wall. This picture captivated me many years ago when I first laid eyes on it. I don't know who the artist is/was but it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It is my "some day". It also speaks to me as an archetype of the divine feminine. I wish I could upload it here, but I will post it to your FB page for you to see it.

    1. Saw it. Love it. I wish it could somehow be posted here too because it's the kind of image that I feel would speak deeply to most women. A lovely Someday, to be sure.

  2. Beauty.....Personification......Aside from my kids and the pure beauty of innocence this accolade has to go to you!

The beauty of a friendship, even though we have never met makes my heart swell :-)

PS that is one of my favourite images too, oh to be old and sitting in wheelbarrows together ;-)

    1. Huge compliments, here -- thank you Sleepy Joe -- heart swelling, yes. Friendship is priceless, as are children in all their joy and innocence. Love the images these automatically pull to my mind.

  3. That's a hard one because I see beauty in so many things and on so many levels. I love the picture though. Got a book, got a wheelbarrow, why not!! lol.

    1. So many levels, you're right. Beautiful that you see it as such because although it's hard to put the sentiment into words, it's true.

      Trickster words.

  4. A young woman who piles her hair into a bun with a pen. Who shares her wisdom and encouragement without pause. One who cares deeply for her children, and who is working hard to create another. She is friendship personified, she is hard-working and talented, she is beautiful inside and out.

  5. I see beauty personified in my little girls, and I see it in a handful of my family and friends who are genuinely selfless. But that kind of beauty is really just Christlike love, right?

Have you ever heard of the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi? The name is funny, but it's this concept of beauty in imperfection and impermanence. Here's the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi

If you've never heard of it, I think you'll like it.

  6. I've never heard of it, no, but I'm certainly intrigued. Thanks for the link down another rabbit's hole. I'm off to explore.
